Putting Your Resourcefulness To Good Use!

Putting Your Resourcefulness To Good Use!

We all have the RESOURCES we need to meet the goals we set for ourselves

In one of my recent blogs, I discussed my own personal approach to problem solving and I referred to recognising and utilising my resources.  I realise now that I was explaining this through a very Milton Model approach to my descriptions and so it occurred to me to be more Meta Model and be more specific about those resources.

For me, decision making is a process which requires me to take on information in relation to the outcome.  Here’s an example of a recent decision.  As part of the Management Team here at Simply Changing, Louise emailed us to ask for everyone’s availability for our next meeting.

I had a time available that day and decided to take responsibility for co-ordinating everyone’s diaries.  I have a great relationship with everyone and sent out a quick round robin email.  The management team are all highly motivated which is great, and they responded really quickly.  I am an organised person and collated the responses quickly.  When I reflect back I can see that my experience and skills supported this activity.

I’ve been in face to face meetings in the past where organising future meetings is one of the trickiest actions of the meeting. I’m sure that you like me have experience that too!!

We achieved a really quick result and it illustrates that our resources come in many forms including:

  • Knowledge
  • Positive Attitude
  • Tools
  • Techniques
  • Skills
  • Materials
  • Experience
  • People -  family, friends, professionals
  • Time
  • Patience
  • Learning materials
  • Strategie
  • Finances

I recognise that the resources that I call upon daily, in my family and in my work are now my primarily skills as a coach. I am able to put things into perspective quickly.  I have developed an ability to consider my options and recognise and work to my priorities. This has allowed me to identify and draw upon the financial and professional resources that I have available to me and see opportunities as they arise.

Coaching is a facilitating process which can enable us all to recognise our own abilities and make the changes required to resolve problems or enhance our life in some way.

Here’s an example:

One of my coachees came to see me because they were unhappy in their job and wanted to find something more fulfilling.  They were initially unsure of what that could be and had reservations about making any changes.

Through the coaching process the coachee was enabled to identify the areas of work that they feel a sense of fulfilment with, and encouraged by this, the coachee then began to explore options.  Throughout the process, I was focused on facilitating the recognition of my coachee’s resourcefulness which supported a rapid growth in confidence and motivation to make the changes,

I absolutely believe that we all have fantastic resources and hold our own answers within!
